Safe Step Stools for All

If you are trying to look for a safe step stool, then you should have one to compare it with. You probably want to know which step stool works best for you. There several types of step stools like wooden or plastic step stools. Each of them has their own unique features which you may want or you may not want. There are wooden step stools that can be folded for easy storage and there are also some that are fixed. It's also the same with plastic step stools. One of the poor features for folding steps is that they are not load rated as high as with fixed ones. This should be considered especially if someone is carrying an extra few pounds and stepping on the step stool. The design and a rating of any step stool is very significant! Buy a sturdy step stool and you’ll stay out of the hospital.

On the other hand, wooden step stools have poor gripping performance especially on greasy floor or floors made with tile or linoleum. Be sure to look on the bottom of the step stool for non slip rubber pads or it could easily slide because it does not grip very well on most kinds of floor surfaces. Some of the wooden stools with 2 steps could easily tip over, causing injuries which I'm sure no one dare wish for.

The plastic Shure-Step safety step stool is one of the best fixed step stools to use. It is far superior to any other wooden or folding steps because it has a rating feature of 500 lbs, which can surely carry a heavy person even he/she is carrying an additional load. These 10 inch high step stools will never tip over or slide even if you stand on its edge. Another feature of this step stool is that it's stackable. You can stack another step on top which it can help you reach or put anything on a top shelf or cabinet. It could increase your work height from 10 to 16 inches high. This sturdy step stool could make your work get done faster without worries of tipping over because it has a non-slip rubber pads at the bottom that prevent the step stool from sliding out from you. So, working is fun if we are worries-free, right?

Safe Step Stools for Seniors

Have you seen a senior citizen in your neighborhood having difficulty getting in a car or on a bus? It is hard to find a safe step stool for your beloved family members that are aged or physically challenged. Many of us have loved ones whom are suffering from this difficulty due to some ailment or just aging. Some aging Americans may have just had surgery or a long confinement in the hospital that has made them and made it difficult to control their balance. It's almost impossible for them to lift their legs from the ground 5 or 6 inches. It might be too risky for our beloved seniors to go out to dine with family or to see a doctor for check-up. It's not that easy to get our seniors safely in any vehicle to transport them with this kind of condition.

There are independent retirement homes and some adult communities that are having the same problem with their seniors. And they have been trying to solve this problem by making their own wooden step stools out of plywood. Some communities use old wooden coca cola crates as step stool just to overcome this kind problem. Others have even tried to use piles of heavy block of wood for their seniors to step on in boarding the bus they are traveling on. Directors of the said communities are challenged to find a more durable, light easy and safe step stool for their seniors. And looking for this kind of quality step stool shouldn't have been hard! Hasn't anyone out there have come up with an invention to solve this national problem?

There is a safe step stool that was specially designed for our beloved seniors. This step stool is called the Senior Step. This safe step stool is 6 inches high, it has a large top surface area, it has a rough sandpaper pad on the top so your seniors’ feet will not slide or slip while stepping on it and the color is bright yellow and black for them to see clearly.

The Senior Citizen population in the US is growing rapidly. This group of the population has special needs regarding their mobility. And this requires a step stool for them to move safely, especially when they travel. Most step stools are not user friendly to our seniors, but the Senior Step is! In fact, these step stools were designed with the help of 3 different directors of adult living communities and one director of nursing.

How to Find a Safe Bus Step Stool

When you're looking at the step stool placed before boarding a bus, do you ever wonder if this step stool is safe or not? Let's inspect one of the step stools buses use and why they choose it. There are some metal step stools that are being used by the buses. These are made of square metal tubes welded to a metal frame with legs that have rubber pads on the bottom. At first look, this step stool seems sturdy, but if we examine it closely, you may find that these bus step stools are not as safe as they should be.

Legs are not necessary for a bus step stool to be safe. Why is that so? Because there are lots of horrifying stories those buses drivers are repeatedly telling me that they see with their own eyes, like watching visually impaired seniors who couldn’t clearly see the top of the bus step stool and put their foot under the step stool instead of on top. You just can't imagine how scary that would be for your seniors to experience.

Another thing that's not good about the legs of the step stool is that, it's the weakest part of it, and because as it wears, the legs tend to bend making it unstable. Or the welds that hold the step stool together will crack, allowing the step stool to wobble and eventually endanger someone who is using it.

So now, try to be more aware in inspecting for a safe step stool for the buses. Do you think this step stool can hold a very, very large or heavy person? If it is a wooden step stool made for a child, well maybe not. So, you must look for a load rating on the step stool. Because if it doesn't have a load rating on it, how you will know how much weight a step stool will carry? You cannot just try any step stool without such important information. We can't invite accidents. So be careful! Choose the safest bus step stool.

Safe Step Stool For Alzheimer’s Sufferers

Alzheimer sufferers have very special needs. They need a safe step stool for getting into bed or when trying to get on a bus. So what would you look for in a step stool when considering an Alzheimer sufferer? First, make sure that the step stool has a large standing surface so it is easy to see and to stand on or even turn around on, should the situation require it. Next, make sure that the step stool is rated for 500 pounds, this is very important if your loved one is a bit on the heavy side.

Please don’t buy a cheap step stool that has rungs like a ladder for your Alzheimer sufferer. These are just plain dangerous to use because you have to balance yourself on a 2 or 3 inch wide rung. Probably not something you want your elders doing.

I’ve seen some bus step stools made of metal. These step stools usually have legs which can make the step stool wobble on uneven surfaces. The legs also make it possible to get your foot caught under the step, especially if the vision of the person using it is not the best. Bus drivers at Alzheimer Assisted Living facilities have horror stories to tell about visually impaired seniors who couldn’t see very well and put their foot under the metal bus step stool instead of on top.

You want to keep your loved one safe, so take the time to consider who will use the step stool, where the step stool will be used, i.e. outside in the weather or in icy conditions. Lastly, what features does the step stool have to have to make it safe for your loved one. I hope these tips will help you when looking for a safe step stool for your Alzheimer sufferer.
